Two Golf Pros from Stratton, Vermont Capture the
2004 U.X. Open® Eastern Qualifier at Bromley Mountain

Golf Tour Challenges Players with Rugged Mountain Terrain

FAIRFIELD, CT, AUGUST 9, 2004 - A full field of adventurous golfers of all skill levels from throughout the northeast came, then played up, down and around Bromley Mountain in Manchester Center, VT on Saturday, August 7 in the Eastern Qualifier of the 2004 U.X. Open.

In the end, two golf instructors from Stratton Mountain Golf School in Stratton, VT -- Rick Clark, age 35, and Jeff Nackel, age 42 -- gave the field a lesson in extreme golf to finish atop the field and earn two spots in the 2004 U.X. Open Championship at Snowmass, CO later this summer.

Clark, originally from Kennebunkport, Maine and Nackel who originally hails from Neenah, Wisconsin, finished the 10-hole marathon tied at 33 (-2). In a playoff, Clark's birdie bested Nackel's par to claim first prize. The third spot in the finals went to Adam Kokinda who shot a 34 (-1). The amateur from Las Vegas traveled cross-country to compete and earn his second trip in the last three years to the U.X. Open Championship.

The U.X. Open is golf with Attitude … and Altitude! It leaves the manicured fairways, rigid dress codes, extensive rules and high costs at the country club. The U.X. Open offers golfers a whole new challenge … up, down, and across a 10-hole mountain course, with 10 simplified rules catering to the rocky terrain. Instead of putting, participants must pitch the ball onto a painted circle 20-30 feet in diameter; a four-club limit; less severe penalties for lost balls and unplayable lies; and no dress code … although hiking boots are strongly recommended. And you can forget about yardage markers and golf carts - laser rangefinder binoculars and ski lifts are preferred.

The 2004 U.X. Open tour includes the Eastern Qualifying Tourney at Bromley and a Western Qualifying Tournament on Sept. 18 at Snowmass (Snowmass Village, CO.). The 2004 U.X. Open Championship on Sept. 19, will also be played at Snowmass and will include the three finalists from Bromley, defending champion Ed Galvan of Burbank, CA. and the three top players from the Western Regional Tourney. The Championship features a unique survivor-style shootout whereby one player is eliminated on each hole until a champion is left standing. Ties are broken with a closest-to-the-flag chip-off. The Snowmass course is highlighted by a 1,220 yard par 5 finishing hole.

The U.X. Open is owned and operated by UXGA Tour Properties, LLC. Fairfield, CT and sponsored by; Nike golf, Bolle, Bushnell, Hot Shots Golf Fore! For Playstation® 2 and The Silvertree Hotel in Snowmass Village.
