The U.X. Open is owned and operated by UXGA Tour Properties, LLC. It's founder and managing member, Rick Ryan, a 20-year sports marketing professional, created and developed the property by combining his love for golf and skiing with the still emerging popularity of outdoor and action sports.

The inaugural U.X. Open was staged on Aug. 27, 1999 at Mountain Creek Resort in Vernon, NJ. In 2000, the tour expanded to four qualifying events (Northstar at Tahoe, Mountain Creek, Jiminy Peak and Snowshoe Mountain). The 2000 Championship was televised on espn2. The 2001 Tour featured three qualifying events (Skyline Ski Area, 49º North, and Holiday Valley) and the Championship at Holiday Valley televised on The Golf Channel. The 2002 U.X. Open featured three qualifying events (Mammoth Mountain, 49º North and Wildcat Mountain). The Championship was held on September 28, 2002 at 49º North and was televised as a primetime one-hour special on The Golf Channel. Last year, four qualifying events were conducted (Mammoth Mountain, Bromley, Wildcat and Snowmass) with the Championship at Snowmass.
